In 2024, the Bio-based Meeting Centre at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) opened its doors. This centre supports innovation and research with a positive impact on agriculture. It provides a space for farmers and construction companies to explore the farming of materials used in construction. Visitors can learn about the advantages of bio-based materials, such as those derived from plant fibres, which have a smaller environmental footprint than traditional materials. Benefits include a new, eco friendly business model for farmers, construction materials that capture CO2, and reduced reliance on oil-based materials.
